The land at Solway was acquired in 1908, the grandstand built 1910, and the first show held in 1911. The drawing is not dated nor is the architects name indicated but this is probably by William Crichton and dated about 1909.

While this drawing is a preliminary sketch plan it appears to be close to the final 'as built' design. The BFA collection does not include any contract drawings but the Alexander Turnbull Library and the Wairarapa Archives also have Crichton and McKay drawings of the grandstand.
